Officer Bryan Velazquez began his law enforcement career in April 2016 as an officer with the USF Police Department. He is a Tampa native and still resides in Tampa with his wife and six children. Officer Velazquez obtained his Associates in Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice studies from Hillsborough Community College. During his two years with the USF Police Department he has obtained several certifications including DUI, ARIDE, Speed Measurement and Dangerous Drugs and Narcotics.
Officer Velazquez hit the ground running as a new officer actively engaged in enforcement efforts as well as getting to know his community. He has participated in many community outreach programs which is a testament to his nature and commitment to his chosen career. In his short time at USFPD, Officer Velazquez has been recognized and selected for special deployments such as Hurricane Irma relief as well as mutual aid assistance in north Florida. In late 2016, Officer Velazquez and some of his fellow officers were recognized for their decisive actions when bringing a peaceful and safe resolution to a situation involving a suicidal subject.
Officer Velazquez is currently a member of the USF Tactical Response Team and, most recently, was one of two officers to be selected for the first time from the USF Police Department to attend the Pinellas County SWAT School from which he proudly graduated in October 2017. Officer Velazquez plans on returning to school in the near future to obtain his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.
