TFR – Firefighter of the Year
Captain Troy Jones
Captain Troy Jones has been with Tampa Fire Rescue for over sixteen years. During his tenure with TFR, he has displayed many traits and qualities that provide excellent examples for those who work for our organization and those who aspire to become a members. He is well respected for his knowledge of hazardous materials and mitigating situations involving them. Captain Jones has held the ranks of Firefighter, Driver-Engineer, Paramedic, and Captain. He strives to stay up to date on all aspects of his job through education and training. He is a member of the Peer Fitness Team and holds the position of Lead Trainer. As Lead Instructor for the Tampa Fire Academy, he teaches students with an interest in our occupation and stands as a great example and role model.
Off duty, Captain Jones is affiliated with the Buddy Break Organization. This volunteer group promotes recreational activities with special needs children, and gives their parents a well-deserved reprieve for a few hours. His other off duty activities include volunteering at the New Tampa YMCA swim team. Captain Jones balances time for his community with his marriage and being a father to his two children.
Captain Jones’ judgment and leadership can be counted upon in all situations. He is well liked and respected by his superiors and others within Tampa Fire Rescue. His peers often look to for him for advice and education. Captain Troy Jones is an inspiring leader who makes Tampa Fire Rescue a strong and respected organization.
