Floriday Highway Patrol Trooper of the Year - Corporal Lee Ali

In Polk County on November 15, 2009, and while off duty traveling with his wife and daughter, Corporal Ali noticed a vehicle that was traveling westbound on C.R. 540-A,  east of C.R. 37 enter the grass median.  The vehicle stopped and was now facing the eastbound lanes. Corporal Ali was driving east on C.R. 540-A and as he passed the vehicle he observed a female driver slumped over the wheel.  Corporal Ali returned and fearing that the vehicle would enter the eastbound lanes, he placed his personal vehicle directly in front of the female’s vehicle.  Corporal Ali found the car in gear and the driver having a seizure.  Corporal Ali rendered first aid to the driver and contacted emergency services who responded and provided medical services to the driver. Without his quick response and decisive action there could have been tragic consequences to this incident.

Corporal Lee Ali acted within the highest standards set forth by the Florida Highway Patrol, even though he was not on duty during this incident.  Corporal Ali is commended for his actions which ultimately prevented the seizure victim from driving into on-coming traffic and possibly causing injuries to herself and/or the public.  As a result of Corporal Ali’s actions the female was treated and has since recovered from her seizure.

He began his career with the Florida Highway Patrol on December 6, 2004, and was assigned to the Lakeland District.  Corporal Ali was promoted to Corporal on June 27, 2008, and he is assigned to the Traffic Homicide Squad in the Lakeland District.  Corporal Ali has been married to Mrs. Gloria Ali for 16 years.   He and his wife have a teenage daughter name Amanda.
