Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputy
of the Year - Reserve II Major Joel Freedland
RII Major Joel Freedland is a
Reserve Deputy for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. His full
time career has been in the construction industry for 30 years; 21 of
those years have been in executive level roles. He has managed all
departments within a homebuilding company and his experiences also
include; national trainer for the country’s largest homebuilder,
college recruiter, key note speaker at multiple universities, judge for
the NAHB, board member of LSU Construction Counsel, State of Florida
Licensed General Contractor & Realtor, FEMA Certified Natural
Disaster Inspector, owner of multiple business, Real Estate Investor,
Certified Instructor, and Consultant for the homebuilding industry.
RII Major Joel Freedland has been married to Kathy for over 30 years
and they have three daughters. The two oldest daughters are graduates
of the University of South Florida and the youngest is in her third
year at USF studying to become a teacher in special education while her
boyfriend is serving overseas in the U.S. Navy. Joel has been with the
Reserve II Unit for over 25 years. As commander of the RII Unit, he
currently holds the highest rank as major which oversees the 120+
members.
Joel is a certified CPR/First Aid Instructor. He served 12 years as a
board member and 17 years coaching the Leaguerettes, a local softball
league for 280 girls. Joel spends most of his free time volunteering
for the Reserve II program and volunteering for different charities.
