Tampa Police Department Reserve Officer of the Year - Reserve Officer Doug Cook
Reserve
Officer Doug Cook has been a Police Officer with the City of Tampa
since February 1968. He retired from full time duty in August 2003 and
transitioned to our Reserve Force. Since that time, he has logged
countless hours of service to our citizens.
This year, Reserve Officer Cook was depended on for more than his
regular hours. When Officers Kocab and Curtis tragically lost their
lives, Doug Cook was immediately available to help. Because of his
extensive knowledge and experience with the Critical Incident Stress
Management Team, Officer Cook was utilized for a myriad of functions
related in supporting the efforts of the regional team. More
importantly, he was available and performed duties directly related to
serving our officers and staff during the funeral and the days to come.
During this year, Reserve Officer Cook’s personal life was also very
demanding. Caring for his wife and balancing other family obligations
placed a heavy burden on a man taxed more than most in our field of
service. During this past year, Reserve Officer Cook logged 377.5 hours
of service time; not including the hundred or more hours devoted to our
police family during the recent tragedy.
